About Earthworx Garden World
Growing Something Special Since 2002
Every great garden starts with a vision.
For Earthworx founder Gwen Gower, that vision began in 2002 with three staff members, a bakkie and an unwavering passion for plants. Starting as a small garden maintenance business servicing homes between Green Point and Bakoven, Gwen built Earthworx one garden at a time, earning a reputation for quality workmanship, genuine care and an eye for creating beautiful outdoor spaces.
Two years later, Gwen met fellow landscaper Tony Mitchell. Sharing the same passion for landscaping and exceptional service, they combined their businesses and continued growing what would become one of Cape Town’s most recognised independent garden centres.

A Vision Takes Root

2010
The first garden centre
Gwen and Tony opened the first Earthworx Garden Centre on Main Road in Hout Bay, creating a destination where gardeners could access quality plants, expert advice and everything needed to bring their outdoor spaces to life.

2015
The biggest milestone
Gwen and Tony purchased the former Hout Bay International School on the corner of Valley and Victoria Road. While many saw an ageing property with little potential, Gwen saw an opportunity to create something extraordinary.
Following an extensive renovation, the site was transformed into the Earthworx Garden World visitors know today. What was once a neglected property has become a vibrant destination filled with thriving plants, beautiful displays and welcoming spaces where people gather, learn and celebrate.
A Destination for the Whole Family
Today, Earthworx is far more than a place to buy plants.
Visitors can explore one of Hout Bay’s best-loved garden centres, enjoy breakfast or lunch at Roots Farm Shop, book professional landscaping services, host memorable celebrations, spend time in the play park or simply enjoy being surrounded by beautiful gardens. Everything has grown from Gwen’s original passion for plants and her belief that gardens bring people together.
